Phantom Auto, the leading expert in software for long-range, remotely-operated software for unmanned vehicles, was recently named a 2018 Cool Vendor in Automotive and Smart Transportation by Gartner. The report was written by Gartner analysts Michael Ramsey, Saniye Burcu Alaybeyi, and Carsten Isert.
"The automotive sector is filled with startups pushing the edge of artificial intelligence, IoT and data monetization. The vendors here represent a sample of the most intriguing companies in the space. CIOs in automotive and smart mobility should look to acquire or partner with them."
In the report, the authors highlight the rationale behind Phantom’s business model, which enables autonomous vehicles to get on the road and into production faster, rather than wait for autonomy to mature enough to be able to handle complex and hard-to-predict situations.
“When autonomous vehicles inevitably get stuck in a situation that is too difficult for a computer to understand, a teleoperator can step in, take control of the vehicle and get it out of the situation. Phantom Auto has figured out how to remotely operate vehicles with a human controller who is located hundreds or thousands of miles away,” according to analyst Michael Ramsey.
